Sexual Sin

I guess I'm not a little girl anymore

When you're a teenage girl growing up all you hear is stay away from boys. To be quite honest, that pushes many young girls to wonder why, and eventually find out . Had we only listened, right? Well, no, because I'm hoping at least a majority of us learned a lesson from those young days. Heck, even our current days.

For me, I refrained from sex as long as I could because my mother would always tell me that if I got pregnant I was getting kicked out of her house( I didn't want to risk the chances of that just being a blank threat or a solid promise). So yes, I was not only afraid of having sex but  I was definitely afraid of my mother.

I say this all to say, if you're like me you never looked at sex as a sin. Even growing up in a church, I never thought that it was. I feared my mother, but never feared God.

As a Christian, and me being a "born-again, saved-again" Christian, I notice that it became like living my life through this rule book. Let me make sure that I don't do this and don't get myself into that. I can't live this way and I want to make sure I am representing myself in this light, etc. etc. etc. I'm not saying that it's not okay to want to live a righteous life and at least try to be perfect, but I do believe that it's more to it than that. It's about loving God, building your relationship with Him, becoming closer to Him through your thoughts, your body and spirit. You can read an entire book about how to live your life, but if you aren't always referring to that source where those rules came from, how will you know if you're doing anything right or wrong. We all have many different perspectives on what the context of a passage truly says.

Sexual sin...I believe now to be a very powerful sin, but throughout my years of being sexually promiscuous I definitely didn't consider it to be that way at all. It is so easy to sin in this world.

We can be drawn in by what this world has to offer and that is why 1 John 2:15-17 says Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

It seems so difficult, but it doesn't have to be.
